One may ask, but how?
Doesn't comparing oneself to another help us thrive, or do better?
The answer is - It depends on our self concept...
Our view about ourselves greatly impacts whether comparison is fruitful or not. If we think less of ourselves, and engage in self limiting thoughts and fear based beliefs, then our concept of self is poor; our self esteem is low.
If you are going through this, then comparison is dangerous. It will lead you down the rabbit hole, trapping you in to a self perceived "never-ending" cycle of despair, doubt and fear.
When we compare ourselves to another, we rob ourselves of the opportunity and joy to discover our true self. When we try to tread the same path as they have, we forget that we are not meant to be another.
We can be inspired by someone, by their journey. However, to make ourselves believe that we are not as good as them, or we need to be where they are in that moment, limits our true potential for growth.
We may have often been influenced by others' expectations of us, by being compared to others. Over a period of time, others' voices comparing us or belittling us become our voice. We start believing them and agreeing with them.
We can change our self talk and affirm more encouraging and empowering words for us.
Do it for you!
