The past is a place of reference, not a place of residence; the past is a place of learning, not a place of living.
Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart
1. Your past does not determine your true potential - Are you letting your past be a benchmark towards your goal? Have you been believing that your future cannot be better than your past? With every experience, we become wiser and more aware of our true skills. Your previous version is not the version that you are today.
2. You learn from your mistakes - With every mistake, we realise the changes that need to be made. In hindsight, it helps us to understand what can be done better and what needs to be done away with - our work style, attitude, unrealistic plans or timelines or our thought patterns.
3. History does not have to repeat itself - Pain and trauma from a previous setback does not have to affect our present reality. How? We are capable of releasing fears that hold us back - fears of failure, rejection, not feeling worthy, and more. We have to break away from self imposed shackles, that we have unknowingly created due to our prior experiences.
4. Clear intention with a clear goal - Ask yourself - what is it that you want, and what are you doing to achieve it? Are your priorities right or are you being strung along by seeking the illusionary rewards of external praise, appreciation and validation, as you were in the past? Your intention along with the effort creates a blueprint to create a future you envision.
Being stuck in the past inhibits our growth, our progress. It is essential to rise above the self inflicted limits that have been created and be able to acknowledge the many possibilities and opportunities.
